Rules for creating an account and using the Dota Captain sandbox.

Effective May 26, 2026 · Dota Captain

Overview

Dota Captain (dotacaptain.com) is a fan-built Captain's Mode sandbox for Dota 2. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Valve Corporation. Dota 2, hero names, artwork, and related marks are property of their respective owners.

By creating an account or using Dota Captain, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age required in your jurisdiction to consent to online services, you may only use the service with permission from a parent or legal guardian.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the service complies with applicable local laws.

Accounts

You must provide accurate information when registering, including a valid email address and display name.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account.

Notify us promptly at the contact address below if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the service. Prohibited conduct includes, without limitation: attempting to gain unauthorized access to systems or other users' accounts; scraping or automated abuse that degrades service availability; uploading malware or malicious code; harassing other users through display names or other visible profile fields; impersonating Valve, other rights holders, or other users; and using the service for unlawful purposes.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that we reasonably believe harm the service or other users.

Your content

You retain ownership of information you submit, such as your display name and gameplay-related records associated with your account.

You grant Dota Captain a non-exclusive license to store, display, and process that information solely to operate the service — for example, showing your display name on leaderboards and retaining match history tied to your profile.

You represent that content you submit does not infringe third-party rights and complies with these terms.

Service availability

Dota Captain is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Features, match simulation behavior, ratings, and leaderboard standings may change, be reset, or be discontinued at any time without notice.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Maintenance, third-party outages, or technical issues may cause temporary unavailability.

Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Dota Captain is a fan project for entertainment and draft practice. It is not official Dota 2 software and does not replace Valve's game client or services.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dota Captain and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the service.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of zero or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (typically zero for the free tier).

Termination

You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms or if continued operation of your account poses risk to the service or others.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and governing provisions — will survive.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will change when updates are posted.

Continued use of the service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
