Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Dota Captain (dotacaptain.com) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the service.
By creating an account or using the site, you acknowledge the practices described here.
Information we collect
Account information: email address, password (stored securely by our auth provider — we do not store plaintext passwords), and display name you choose at signup.
Gameplay and profile data: captain rating, level progress, match history, draft and simulation records, and leaderboard placement generated through your use of the service.
Social and user-generated content: friend and guild relationships, public profile fields, guild names, tags, descriptions and messages of the day, and messages you send in guild or PvP chat.
Technical data: session cookies and similar tokens needed to keep you signed in, plus basic usage analytics described below.
How we use information
We use collected information to authenticate you, maintain your profile and social relationships, deliver guild and PvP chat, record matches and ratings, display public profile and leaderboard standings, improve reliability, and respond to support or legal requests.
We do not sell your personal information.
Service providers
Authentication and database hosting are provided by Supabase. Supabase processes account credentials and profile data on our behalf under their own terms and privacy practices.
The site may be hosted on Vercel. As our hosting and content-delivery provider, Vercel may process technical request data (such as IP address and browser metadata) necessary to serve the site.
We use PostHog for product analytics and error monitoring to understand how the service is used and to diagnose issues. PostHog may record page views and specific gameplay events (for example, starting a draft or finishing a simulated match); it does not capture your password. This data is processed on our behalf under PostHog's terms and privacy practices.
In the mobile app, anonymous usage analytics are on by default and can be turned off in Settings. Sanitized crash diagnostics are a separate choice and remain off unless you enable them. Depending on those choices, the app may send its version and platform, a coarse screen or API category, an error class or HTTP status, an opaque request ID, and a random identifier that lasts only for the current app launch. The mobile report excludes account IDs, email, room IDs, raw URLs or query parameters, gameplay payloads, error messages, stack traces, passwords, and advertising identifiers.
The mobile app may use Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) for approved placements shown to non-supporters. A current supporter entitlement suppresses ad requests and rendered ads. Where required, advertising identifiers or personalized advertising are used only after the applicable consent choice.
Advertising
We may display advertising provided by Google, including through Google AdSense, to help cover the cost of running the site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (https://www.google.com/settings/ads), and you can review your options for opting out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at https://www.aboutads.info.
Where required by law, including for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, advertising and analytics cookies are set only after you provide consent, and you may withdraw consent at any time.
Data retention
We retain account and gameplay data while your account is active and as needed to operate leaderboards and match history.
Guild and PvP chat are retained as needed to provide those features and may be removed with the related room, guild, or account.
If you request deletion or we terminate an account, we will delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, security, or backup purposes.
Your choices and rights
You may update your display name through in-app profile settings where available.
You can disable mobile usage analytics or separately enable and disable sanitized diagnostics in mobile Settings. Turning either choice off stops new delivery; the app does not keep an offline analytics or crash-report queue for later upload.
You may request access, correction, or deletion of personal data by contacting us at the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time subject to applicable law.
Children's privacy
The service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
Security
We use industry-standard practices through our providers to protect data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International users
If you access the service from outside the country where our providers operate, your information may be processed in jurisdictions with different data protection laws.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will change when updates are posted.
Material changes may be noted on the site. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
